Reclaiming Enlightenment

A contemporary reinterpretation of an incomplete Buddha effigy from the Angkor National Museum’s celebrated ‘Room of a Thousand Buddhas,’ this piece transforms the perceived ‘missing’ element into a powerful statement of continual emergence. By using a consistent color palette but contrasting particle designs between the missing pieces and present elements, this work urges the audience to look beyond absence and instead witness a vibrant process of cohesion. It conveys an optimistic philosophy: that challenges or perceived incompleteness are merely moments in a grander narrative of growth, mirroring the uneven journey to Enlightenment in Buddhism and Cambodia’s reclamation
and revitalization of its cultural heritage.
